Liquids with vapour bubbles

چکیده
We propose a model for liquids with bubbles calling upon the theory of continua with microstructure. In addition to the contraction and expansion of bubbles due to pressure already included in models available in the literature on such continua, we take into account possible phase changes at the bubble surfaces. To begin with, we consider here the simplest constitutive assumptions for both phases: a perfect incompressible fluid and a perfect gas. Furthermore we assume temperature to be constant and uniform within each bubble and in the fluid next to it. The model introduces the subject of configurational forces that are dual to microvelocities, leading to a generalization of the Rayleigh–Plesset bubble dynamics. c © 2007 Elsevier Ltd. Recalcitrant bubbles
We demonstrate that thermocapillary forces may drive bubbles against liquid flow in 'anomalous' mixtures. Unlike 'ordinary' liquids, in which bubbles migrate towards higher temperatures, we have observed vapour bubbles migrating towards lower temperatures, therefore against the flow. This unusual behaviour may be explained by the temperature dependence of surface tension of these binary mixture...
متن کاملStructure of positive streamers inside gaseous bubbles immersed in liquids
Electric discharges and streamers in liquids typically proceed through vapour phase channels produced by the streamer or in gaseous bubbles. The bubbles can originate by enthalpy changes produced by the discharge or can be artificially injected into the liquid. Experiments on streamers in bubbles immersed in liquids have shown that the discharge propagates either along the surface of the bubble...
متن کاملDetecting vapour bubbles in simulations of metastable water.
The investigation of cavitation in metastable liquids with molecular simulations requires an appropriate definition of the volume of the vapour bubble forming within the metastable liquid phase. Commonly used approaches for bubble detection exhibit two significant flaws: first, when applied to water they often identify the voids within the hydrogen bond network as bubbles thus masking the signa...
متن کاملDisappearing bodies and ghost vortices.
In many dispersed multiphase flows bubbles, droplets, and particles move and disappear due to a phase change. Practical examples include vapour bubbles condensing in subcooled liquids, fuel droplets evaporating in a hot gas and ice crystals melting in water. After these 'bodies' have disappeared, they leave behind a remnant 'ghost' vortex as an expression of momentum conservation. A general fra...
متن کاملSonochemistry and sonoluminescence of room-temperature ionic liquids.
The sonication of ionic organic liquids leads to decomposition of the liquids. Multibubble sonoluminescence spectra and headgas analysis reveal a variety of decomposition products from the sonolysis of N,N'-dialkylimidazolium ionic liquids. The decomposition is a result of acoustic cavitation, which generates localized hot spots from the implosive collapse of bubbles in the ionic liquids. Despi...
